Mike Nardell is now the Divisional Liaison in the Arts. Though he has worked at UCSC for more than 15 years, coming on board as the Arts Divisional Liaison feels like a new homecoming. As an undergraduate at UCSC, Mike created an independent major that combined the study of art, mathematics, electronic music, and computer programming. He then studied Educational Technology at San Francisco State University, graduating with an MA in Education. Before joining UCSC ITS, Mike worked in educational software development and enterprise software programming. Then in 2007 Mike joined UCSC ITS working for the Faculty Instructional Technology Center, in the then Learning Technologies group. Though his graduate studies and professional work have been a detour from the artistic use of technology, he is involved in other artistic endeavors, in particular blacksmithing and metalwork. Ultimately, he has come to believe that we in IT can learn much from the arts. Mike is very excited by the prospect of working with the diverse departments in the Arts Division and the talented and dedicated Local IT Specialists in his team.
